In the future, laid-off Canadian and U.S. IBM employees who agree to the company’s “Project Match” offer of a job in “developing markets” like China, Brazil, Mexico, the Czech Republic, Russia, South Africa, Nigeria, and the United Arab Emirates will wish they had read The Forsaken: an American Tragedy in Stalin’s Russia by Tim Tzouliadis. The chapter on “Fordizatsia” — Ford workers relocating to the USSR during “Great Depression I” — is especially interesting. In general, the book documents many U.S. citizens ending up in Gulags or dead, and the U.S. government doing nothing about it despite being fully aware.
As the saying goes, “History will repeat itself until we learn the lesson”.
